Green Building

Recycled and recyclable – steel closes the loop on the way toward more sustainable construction.

Manufacturing companies producing cellphones, paints, plastics and other objects are not the only participant encouraged to assess a product life cycle. A product life cycle begins in the acquisition of raw materials, the manufacturing process, its packaging and transportation, its usage, and the end of life. Hence, the end life of the product must be considered in the first place. This will enable the company to become aware of its environmental impact on the planet and human health. This may also allow them to create and develop measures on how to reduce or eliminate them beforehand.

DID YOU KNOW THAT.. even construction companies are considering “green building”.

“Green building”  is the practice of  (1) increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials (2) reducing building impacts on human health  and the environment, through better sitting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal – the complete building life cycle. Building Design and Construction (BDC) has found out that  London’s Crystals Palace and Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II used passive systems such as roof ventilators and underground air-cooling chamber to control their indoor temperature. This starts the several transformation of events going after the trends of sustainability.

One of the building materials that construction companies uses are steels. Aside from its strong and durable characteristics, it has been known that steel is the most recycled material. After its useful life regardless of its origin,  steel is recycled back into another product. Moreover, many benefits can be gained from the use of recycled steel. Steel has a long structure life reducing the need for future building resources. Hence, only 2% steel vs  20% wood can be thrown on a waste site. STEEL IS GREEN.

Thanks for Reading! :)

  1. Green building is a very good idea. This will enable everyone to lessen the waste we contribute to the environment. I think all those who plan to construct a building should have this in mind :)
